BRIAN BUTLER (www.dumboxproductions.com)

Brian will be hosting the 2008 Jogues Youth Conference. Brian Butler is co-founder and president of Dumb Ox Productions, Inc., a nonprofit organization doing chastity and vocation formation with teens. He served as the Associate Director for Youth Catechesis in the Archdiocese of New Orleans for two years, after spending five years teaching theology and coordinating campus ministry at the high school level. He has over 12 years of youth ministry experience and is co-author of Theology of the Body for Teens (Ascension Press, 2006), a high school curriculum based on John Paul II’s teaching on human love according to God’s plan. He is also co-author of The Bible Thumper (vols. 1 & 2), holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of New Orleans and is finishing a Masters in Theology at Notre Dame Seminary School of Theology. Brian currently coordinates a comprehensive vocation formation program for teens in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux called “411.” He enjoys music, sports and spending time with his wonderful wife, Lisa, and their three children

 

JUDY McDONALD (www.judymcdonald.net)

Judy is a featured speaker at the 2008 Jogues Youth Conference after having rocked the house last year. She is based in San Diego, Calif., has been a natural comedian all her life.

An alumnus of University of San Diego, Judy has been performing stand-up for 12 years. In college, she worked at KFMB studios in radio and television. She also worked for the Republican National Convention, the Commission on Presidential Debates and the Academy Awards.

Judy's professional comedic experience includes an appearance on the Dennis Miller show, the weather channel and opening for such comedians as Paula Poundstone, Mark Curry, Caroline Rea and Margaret Cho. She performs at corporate and private events, universities is a regular at the La Jolla Comedy Store in San Diego.
For the past three years Judy has been touring nationally and internationally bringing her Catholic Comedy to Parishes, conferences even Military bases. Judy can also be found on www.lifeteen.com as a featured writer and contributor.   When she doesn't have a microphone in her hand you might find Judy participating in adventure races, triathlons, surfing and an occasional sandbagging round of golf.

 

 

DEWEY SZARKOWSKI (www.echodown.com)

Dwight "Dewey" Szarkowski is returning this year as a featured speaker at the JYC.  Dewey is the founder of Echodown Ministries, which provides retreat, conference and worship services to Catholic parishes and events across the nation.  He currently serves as the Director of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of Jacksonville, Florida where he lives with his wife Katie -  who in addition to being a totally awesome and righteous Catholic babe is mom to their newborn son, Sam.  When he is not cruising the Caribbean (see picture), Dewey is working on his first book about the current state of youth culture and the need for community and finishing his Masters in Theology from Franciscan University in Steubenville OH.  Finally, he would like to send a 'shout out' to his mother:  "Aww, don't worry Mom, I will get that Masters Degree - I just need to take my comp exams!".

 

TOM ACEMOGLU (www.echodown.com)

Tom is a graduate of Siena College and is completing a Masters in Theology from Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio where he is part of the "Dead Theologians Society". He has been working in Youth Ministry for over seven years, including as featured speaker and retreat leader as part of Echodown Ministries. Tom has also been actively involved in supporting Youth Ministry programs at a variety of Parishes in New York and Pennsylvania. Tom is a champion 'dartist' and has a great passion for music, which is demonstrated by the fact that he has used up all the space on his IPod. He was recently hospitalized for a Wii related wrist injury but will be well enough to join us at the JYC again this year!!
